DESCRIPTION:


The Montreal Lithuanian Radio Programme was founded on 6th of October 1963 by Louis Stanké(Stankevicius) on station CFMB (1280 on the dial) and is heard in Lithuanian language,during one hour,every Tuesday at 23p.m.

This programme Was made possible by the founder,owner and president of the station,the late Casimir G.Stanczykowski.

CFMB was licensed in 1962 as the the first multilingual and multicultural radio station in Canada.Today it

broadcasts in 19 languages,including Lithuanian the oldest living language in the World,closest among all European languages to the sanscrit.

The Lithuanian programme is popular not only with Canadian Lithuanians,but also with Jews,Polish and Russians who many of them understands the Lithuanian language.Also with many other Canadians who

appreciate its pleasant music.

The programme receives a considerable amount of appreciation and encouraging mail.

The programme  consists of talk,news,interviews,commentaries,weekly events and community events,

and music.Operas,choirs,ensembles,soloists.

The programme had Montreal exmayor Jean Drapeau talk on the occasion of Lithuanian National Day.

On the 25th anniversary of the radio programme there was published a 30 pages booklet with the wishes from the prime minister at that time Brian Malroney,minister of communications Flora MacDonald,minister of multiculturalism Gerry Weiner,prime minister Robert Bourassa and from the Mayor of Montreal Jean Drapeau.

During its existance,the programme has received several tokens of recognition,including an award in 1965.Producer L.Stanké personally received  a Trophy from Mr.J.Abert Charbonneau,the former vice president of CIL and President of Combined Health and Red Cross Appeal.

On the 40th anniversary of the programme,CFMB radio station gave him a commemorative votive tablet.

In the year of 2004 he received a golden order from the President of the Republic of Lithuania for the achievements of Lithuania's behalf.

In the year of 2009 he received a golden medal from the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.

The programme is a vital force in the Lithuanian Community where it compliments advertising in other media and allows allows businesses to promote their products and services to the community in its own language.
